on the Terrorist Attacks in Paris
the Abroad Organization of the Communist
In a series of coordinated attacks across Paris on Friday the 13th, at least 128 innocent people were killed and more than 180 injured. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attacks at the Bataclan concert hall and outside the Stade de France national stadium and claimed to be retaliating against the interventions of the French government in Syria. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for these coordinated acts of terrorism and the French President, Francois Hollande, declared the attacks as an act of war and held the terrorist group accountable.
The emergence of the Islamic State and other terrorist groups is a direct result of the complex conflict in the Middle East and the destructive interventions and policies of regional states and world powers acting in competition and self-interest. These groups are today terrorising, massacring and enslaving local populations and have begun targeted attacks on innocent and civilian populations in Europe.
The antidote to these developments is a strong and united movement against the spread of religious extremism on the one hand and the destructive policies and interventions of regional and international powers on the other. This united movement must bring together the civilian population in the affected countries and from around the world, human rights groups and institutions as well as organisations and political parties. Without a counter-movement, regional states and international super powers will continue to support different terrorist groups to serve their own interests and to improve their own positions in the power struggle for regional influence.
The same united movement against extremism and exploitative policies of involved states and powers can prevent that terrorist attacks on European soil are used as fuel for racist and anti-immigrant parties and groups in the European countries. A united movement across borders will be better positioned to advocate for the rights of people fleeing terror and persecution and seeking safety and protection in Europe. Our goal is to join force with the freedom-loving people and groups of the Middle East, Europe and other parts of the world to ensure that humanity and our collective sense of responsibility prevails over the agendas of extremist organisations, terrorist groups and the self-interests of regional and international powers. Our goal is to ensure that these powers fail in their agenda to dominate our societies through violence, polarisation and political manipulation.
The Abroad Organization of the Communist Party of Iran strongly condemns the criminal attacks in Paris and is steadfast in its goal to promote solidarity across borders and between the affected populations in the Middle East, Europe and across the globe. We call upon all freedom loving forces, human rights institutions, humanitarian organisations, leftist and labour organisations, parties and movements to form a united front against the divisive agendas of extremism and terrorism and the destructive interference of regional and international super powers.
